Last year, I did a blog piece on bathroom trends for 2020. And since we are now full speed ahead into 2021, I decided to talk about some of the trends that will be popping up this year!
Every year trends shift in all aspects of the design world. From paint colors to vanity and mirror silhouettes, to overall design styles, some things stay consistent and others tend to fade away.
As of late, there has been a larger focus on self-care, and most of this takes place in your bathroom. If you are looking to update your bathroom or are simply curious to see what this year's popular aesthetics will be, keep reading!
Quartz countertops. While other stone materials are certainly not disappearing, there is a shift in using quartz for bathroom countertops. Not only is it beautiful, but it is non-porous, and easy to keep clean. For this reason, it also harbors less bacteria than other similar stones. You will also see warmer colors of quartz, instead of predominantly white.
Warm color palettes. In contrast to the stark whites or deep blues we have seen over the past couple of years, 2021 will bring warmth to bathrooms. Unfinished woods, warmer paint colors, and cozier textures will be big trends.
Floating vanities. This was on last year’s list and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon. Floating vanities that are secured to the wall continue to gain in popularity. They are sleek and sophisticated and work with many design styles. They are also space savers if you have a smaller bathroom and make the room feel larger. The space underneath can also be used for basket storage as well.
Medicine cabinets. Yes, you read that right. Typically, medicine cabinets are viewed as dated and out of style. 2021 will see a resurgence in updated medicine cabinets. Think recessed styles, beautifully framed options, and even backlit medicine cabinets. Medicine cabinets are a great way to maximize storage and pair beautifully with floating vanities.
Colored subway tile. When you hear subway tile, you are probably thinking of the classic, white rectangular tiles. It is a classic, timeless look. However, a fun new trend we are seeing is colored subway tile. You still get the clean lines and shape, but with a fun pop of color. Blues and greens are beautiful options that can transform your space.
Black accents. Matte black plumbing fixtures have been growing in popularity, but now this moody hue is extending to other bathroom accessories. Mirror frames, shelving, lighting, and even wall art in black add amazing contrast to any whites or lighter colors in the space. Using black as the unifying accessory color ties everything together and creates an appealing aesthetic.
Pendant lighting. While unique lighting options in bathrooms, versus your typical vanity light, is in no way groundbreaking, pendant lighting is becoming more prevalent. Grouping two or three pendants over a vanity looks unexpected and fresh. Or choose one larger pendant if you are tight on space. Rattan, matte brass, and matte black are all great options that will look on trend but stand the test of time.
These are just some of the amazing new design trends we will be seeing this year. Did we miss anything that you think will be popular in bathrooms this year? As always, trend predictions are just that, and taste is uniquely personal. When in doubt, trust your gut and have fun with it!
